PROFESSIONALISM: Then and Now
- As early as 1912, the Board went on record against wildcat promoters and real estate swindlers.
- The Realtor® Code of Ethics was adopted in 1913 and today continues to be the foundation of all business conduct.
- PMAR continues its tradition of taking the lead by providing “Best Practices” for all members to strive for.
HOMEOWNERSHIP: Then and Now
- WWI & WWII - Realtors® raised money for families left destitute, and found housing for defense workers.
- 1948 Vanport Flood - Realtors® coordinated with relief organizations to find housing for newly homeless.
- PMAR’s public service website HOWNW.com is a one-stop resource for anyone wishing to become a homeowner.
ADVOCACY: Then and Now
- One of the first actions of the Portland Board was protesting a proposed tax on mortgages.
- The Board has worked tirelessly since the 1940s to ensure workable sign code regulations.
- PMAR continues to oppose real estate transfer taxes and fight for the rights of Realtors®, homebuyers and sellers.
COMMUNITY: Then and Now
- Realtors® have been involved in almost every facet of the community, from building highways to the Rose Festival.
- Realtors® raised relief money in the wake of the Oklahoma City bombing, 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina.
- In 2009, PMAR members volunteered over 39,000 hours to community service and donated nearly 3.5 million dollars.
