Realtors® and the Community

Realtors® care about the community in which they live and work. They fight for affordable homeownership opportunities, take pride in giving back to the community through volunteer work, and recognize those citizens whose extraordinary contributions have enriched our area. PMAR surveyed our members about their community involvement and in the past year, members have donated an impressive 39,400 hours to community service and either helped to raise or donated $3.4 million. For a full list of charities that PMAR’s members volunteered for or donated money to in the past year, click here.

2011 Future First Citizen

Kelsey West, Riverdale High School

West volunteers with Habitat for Humanity and in the past year contributed 205 hours of her time and personally raised $13,000. She served as the Chairman of the Steering Committee for Habitat’s Youth United Build. West led a group of twelve high school and college students who raised $60,000 over seven months to build a home for a family in North Portland. As Chairman, West reached out to local businesses and schools, led monthly meetings, served as a Habitat spokesperson, wrote grants, and advocated for the importance of stable housing. She also recruited organizations and volunteers to help build the home, and spent many Saturdays on-site during the actual build learning how to frame a wall, install siding, and use construction tools. West has already started the process of fundraising from the next home.

West, who is a senior at Riverdale High School, will receive a $5,000 scholarship toward her future education.
