Realtors® and the Community

Realtors® care about the community in which they live and work. They fight for affordable homeownership opportunities, take pride in giving back to the community through volunteer work, and recognize those citizens whose extraordinary contributions have enriched our area.  PMAR surveyed our members about their community involvement and in the past year, members have donated an impressive 39,400 hours to community service and either helped to raise or donated $3.4 million. For a full list of charities that PMAR’s members volunteered for or donated money to in the past year, click here.

2010 Future First Citizen

Amy Elaine Carlton, Lake Oswego High School
Carlton founded Teens Fighting Hunger (TFH) in May 2007 to help combat childhood hunger. She developed a business plan and met with volunteer attorneys and CPAs to set up TFH as a 501(c)(3) organization. The mission of TFH is to provide relief throughout the year to the nearly 17 million hungry children in the United States; to promote youth involvement and empower teenagers to use their skills, talents, creativity and energy in such ways that they develop both the pleasure and habit of giving back; and to raise awareness about the hunger problem in America. TFH harnesses the artistic talents of teens to make low cost, high quality products and sell them at local markets. To date, Carlton has donated 2,000 hours to TFH and helped raise $60,000. More than 350 teens have volunteered through the organization.

Carlton also founded a Hunger Fighter Club (HFC) at Lake Oswego High School to complement the efforts of TFH. She planned and coordinated the efforts of more than 30 high school volunteers at the Oregon Food Bank, and organized a fundraiser raising $4,000 for a local food pantry. The HFC now has 70 members at Lake Oswego High School and will continue to raise money to fight hunger.

Carlton, who is a senior at Lake Oswego High School, will receive a $5,000 scholarship toward her future education.
